SHL Students Present Study Findings

SHL Hospitality Financial Management students recently presented their findings and recommendations to representatives from Todd Edwards Construction in Farmville and the Department of Planning and Inspections in Tarboro.

Mr. Todd Edwards is a Farmville businessman and owner/operator of Todd Edwards Construction. Ms. Catherine Grimm is the Planning Director for the Department of Planning and Inspections in Tarboro, NC. The project is a preliminary feasibility study for a hotel in each community. Students in this course have conducted this project in Farmville, Tarboro, and previously in Washington, Belhaven, Edenton, Greenville, Mattamuskeet, Duplin County (Duplin Winery) and other NC locations.

Four groups, two for each community, presented their research and results that were framed by varied concepts ranging from small boutique hotels, brand affiliated hotels (Hilton and InterContinental) and an independent hotel.  Groups developed a concept, and conducted analyses to estimate growth rates, analyzed competitors, forecasted how the new hotel concept would penetrate the markets, estimated average daily rates and created an estimate of annual operating results for a representative year within the first five years of operation for the proposed new hotel.
