Kelly Shatat is 2020 Cunanan Leadership Series Speaker

Kelly Shatat

Kelly Shatat, founder, designer and CEO of Moon and Lola, will be the 2020 Cunanan Leadership Series Speaker.

Scheduled for March 23, 2-3 p.m. in room 249 in the Main Student Center, Shatat’s presentation will look at the Leader Within. She will share her journey of entrepreneurship and her pursuit of becoming the great leader she never wanted to be.

Key points she wants her audience to walk away with include:

  • how to make fear work for you instead of against you;
  • how to get comfortable with being uncomfortable;
  • how your competition is one of your biggest assets; and
  • how navigating the human factor is an important key to your success.

The Cunanan Leadership Speaker Series is made possible by a gift from alumni Steve (’87) and Ellen (’88) Cunanan. It is designed to bring distinguished leaders to ECU and eastern North Carolina who can discuss leadership, professional development, ethics, and the role of business in modern society.

A Raleigh native and graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she earned a degree in pharmacy, Shatat launched the Moon and Lola brand in 2003 after a successful career as a pharmaceutical sales rep and clinical pharmacist.

Shatat’s hand-crafted line of fashion jewelry and personalized accessories has been sold in more than 1,000 boutiques across the country, including specialty retailers Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom. Her designs have graced the pages of countless fashion and lifestyle publications, including InStyle, Lucky, Vogue and Southern Living, and have been seen on Good Morning America and the Rachael Ray Show. Moon and Lola made the coveted Oprah’s Favorite Things list twice, and in 2016, it was named one of the North Carolina Retailers of the Year awarded by the NC Retail Merchants Association.

Today, Moon and Lola continues to design, market and distribute fashion jewelry and home accessories in its 3,000-square-foot design and production studio and retail store in historic downtown Apex.

ECU’s College of Business is located in Greenville, North Carolina and currently has more than 28,000 alumni throughout the United States. It’s one of the largest colleges of business in North Carolina.
