In turn with Ugonna Onuoha

In turn is a new series dedicated to highlighting the interns and internship opportunities that can be found within the College of Business (COB).

Ugonna Onuoha will graduate in December 2020 with a double concentration in finance and management information systems. We recently spoke to him about his TIAA internship experience and why his double concentration pursuit. “I have an interest in the finance industry but wanted to have a good understanding of how systems are used in industry, specifically finance. I love investing and want to go into investment banking one day, possibly.”

How did you learn about this internship opportunity at TIAA?

I learned about this internship opportunity at TIAA through Career Shift, which has a lot of internship and job postings.

How did the COB prepare you to be the chosen candidate?

The COB prepared me by giving me the right tools to be successful. I had a good headshot taken at the career fair that I used on my LinkedIn profile. They helped me build the framework for my resume that didn’t have much relative experience yet.

Please describe your experience at the COB.

It has been a good experience with the COB thus far. It has helped me secure a full-time job with TIAA upon graduation and jump-start my career.

Why would you recommend a business student take advantage of an internship opportunity?

I recommend getting an internship because it allows you the chance to take your classwork and put it to the test in a working environment. It really helps you narrow down where you see yourself in the job force.
