In turn with Victoria Dalton

In turn is a series that highlights the interns and internship opportunities found within the College of Business (COB)

We recently spoke with COB senior and Georgetown, Delaware-native Victoria Dalton about her current internship with Trinity Logistics.

We hope you enjoy the read!

Please tell us a little about yourself.

I’m currently a senior at ECU and the College of Business, and I am planning to earn my BSBA degree with a marketing concentration in May 2021. I want to work in marketing communications and written content specifically. My dream job is to work on an email marketing team for either Vogue or Harper Bazaar (I love fashion)!

How did you learn about this internship opportunity?

Living in Delaware, internships are very scarce. I researched and reached out to a family friend who works for Trinity Logistics to learn more about the company and its internship program. After talking with her, I was interested. I sent her my resume, and she passed it on to the director of marketing for me.

At Trinity Logistics, I work closely with the head of marketing communications to produce content specifically for shippers and carriers. I mainly write blogs, formulate mass email automations, and create captions for social media posts. I also help write scripts for videos. I do a lot of writing about truck driving, shipping freight, freight technology, etc. I’ve gained so much experience from this internship.

How did the COB prepare you to be the chosen candidate?

My leadership and English courses really prepared me for my internship. I learned how to create an appropriate resume, write thank you notes, create cover letters, and write for the business industry. Because of these two, I was more than prepared to start my internship and begin learning.

Please describe your experience at the COB.

My experience with the COB has been a bit different from others. I switched my major to marketing halfway through my sophomore year. My journey to declare my concentration was more accelerated, and I didn’t have as much wiggle room with credit hours.

The professors in the COB and specifically the marketing professors are knowledgeable and experienced in their field. They provide real-world examples, which makes the courses more personable and easier to comprehend.

Why would you recommend a business student take advantage of an internship opportunity?

I’ve gained so much real-world experience from my internship that I wouldn’t have learned in a classroom setting. I grow every day as a marketer because of my internship. If you want to gain experience and prepare yourself for a job after graduation, I’d highly suggest taking advantage of an internship.

What was the moment during your internship search process where you knew that your ECU COB education has paid off?

The professors I’ve had in the COB have pushed me and supported me throughout my internship search. I was provided resources such as Handshake and LinkedIn to help me with my search. I honestly don’t know if I would have gotten my internship if it hadn’t been for the COB.
