In turn with James Taylor

In turn is a series that highlights the student interns and internship opportunities found within the College of Business (COB). For more information, contact Melissa Parks at parksr19@ecu.edu.

Cameron, North Carolina’s James Taylor is a COB junior who’s majoring in management information systems. He recently completed an internship with Alliance One. He tells us that he learned of this opportunity via Handshake and his responsibilities included providing technical support for employees’ desktops and laptops, hardware, and software.

Why did you choose to do an internship?

I chose to do an internship because I wanted the experience in my field early before I graduated. I wanted to give myself a head start in my career and a greater door to opportunity in the near future.

How did the COB prepare you to be the chosen candidate?

The College gave me a guide on how to build a strong resume, advice on how to be a professional in the workplace, and how to maximize my production.

What did the internship mean to you?

I have put myself in a position to be successful outside of ECU and potentially help other students who are trying to achieve the same thing.

How are you better prepared for your career with this internship under your belt?

I am better prepared for my career by knowing what to expect in a professional workplace, interacting with other co-workers to resolve problems, and having a great attitude to show up for work every day.

Why would you recommend a business student take advantage of an internship opportunity?

It gives you a real-life perspective on what to expect in your career. It also gives you a chance to interact with other students going in the same career as you to establish relationships and connections that last a lifetime.
