In turn with Jake Anthony

In turn is a series that highlights the student interns and internship opportunities found within the College of Business (COB). For more information, contact Melissa Parks at parksr19@ecu.edu.

Greenville’s Jake Anthony is a risk management and insurance major. His family are Pirates, and his sister is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in psychology. A member of Kappa Alpha Order, Anthony was recently invited to join Beta Gamma Sigma, and he’s a scholarship recipient from the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina.

He’s definitely taking advantage of the Pirate Life afforded him by attending the College of Business. He spoke to us recently about his internship with the North Carolina Joint Underwriting Association.

He tells us, “my responsibilities involve updating, correcting, and confirming client information and policies for the company.”

How did the COB prepare you to be the chosen candidate?

The College of Business prepared me to be a chosen candidate by challenging me academically to get me where I am today.

What does the internship mean to you?

It’s opening my eyes to what my future career plans could be. It is helping me decide what I want to do for the rest of my life, and I am very grateful for that.

How are you better prepared for your career with this internship under your belt?

The internship is teaching me skills and information that are important for my success in the future. I will carry all the things I learn from it for the rest of my career.

Why would you recommend a business student take advantage of an internship opportunity?

I would recommend that any business student take advantage of an internship opportunity to help prepare them for their future careers. It is a good way to gain experience in your field and get insight into what your future job could be like. Having an internship on your resume is also a good way to show future employers that you have experience working in the field of your choice.
