In turn with Lauren Fassnacht

Senior and Nashville, North Carolina-native Lauren Fassnacht has a lot on her plate. She’s a full-time student majoring in finance, a current intern at Carolina Financial Services Group and a business owner, offering photography and video services since she was 18 years old.

We were lucky to have her squeeze us in during her busy schedule, where we asked about her current internship and experiences at ECU and the College of Business.

“I learned about this internship opportunity by visiting Melissa Parks in the Cunanan Center for Professional Success,” said Fassnacht. “My responsibilities at this internship are to create spreadsheets that monitor retirement accounts, comprehend cash flows, and create asset data maps for the financial advisor to review while meeting with clients.”

How have you applied what you learned in your classwork to this position?

Creating a LinkedIn profile that was professional enough to be approved by businesses. I also felt very prepared for the interview process and knowledgeable of how to dress professionally. My resume has received many compliments.

What was the most challenging thing you experienced during your internship, and how did what you learned in the COB help you overcome it?

The most challenging thing has been time management. It has been difficult to balance being a full-time college student, grasp internship learning, and run a successful business. The COB has helped me to overcome it by having understanding and encouraging professors. It is evident they are there to help and want students to succeed.

How did you apply what you learned in BUSI 1200, BUSI 2200, BUSI 3200 or BUSI 4200 to your internship?

I am currently taking BUSI 3200 now. Everything taught in this course has happened in real-life situations, whether it’s the application/submitting resume process, being prepared for the interview, or knowing how to be presentable.

What has this internship taught you about responsibility?

To treat my internship like it is a real job. If you show up on time, do your work diligently, and work with team members, you will have a beneficial day.

How will this internship benefit you?

There are businesses I have already spoken to who are impressed with having an internship under my belt. Some businesses will not hire until you have completed an internship.
