In turn with Jorge Andres Hipolito Canario

Jorge Andres Hipolito Canario will soon have his third internship with EY in Charlotte. He’s already completed two internships with the same company but at their Raleigh, North Carolina offices. The Raleigh-native is currently interning with MrBeast YouTube, where he has the opportunity to assist its accounting team and learn from the company’s senior accountant.

All of this and Canario still finds time to be an RA and be a member of the Latino Student Union, T.E.A.M., Beta Alpha Psi, and Beta Gamma Sigma. With an eye to the future, Canario plans to pursue his master of science in accounting after receiving a double major in finance and accounting in Spring ’93.

It was hard but we had a chance to catch up with Canario to talk about his internship and COB experiences.

How did the Cunanan Center for Professional Success help prepare you for your internship search?

The Cunanan center helped me get my resume the best it could be.

What were your responsibilities during your internship?

As an FSO risk consultant for EY, most of my work was with the data analytics team, helping the clients design and implement risk management and internal control strategies to mitigate strategic, financial, operational and compliance risks. Another major part of my internship was executing tests of controls to support client management’s assessment of their internal controls.

How did you apply what you learned in BUSI 1200, BUSI 2200, BUSI 3200 or BUSI 4200 to your internship?

I applied the interviewing tips I learned to the multiple interviews with the senior manager and partners at EY.

How have you applied what you learned in your classwork to this position?

A lot of the work that I was doing was with excel. So, I took advantage of all my MIS classes to put me ahead of the curve.

Why would you recommend a business student take advantage of the Cunanan Center for Professional Success resources?

I recommend that all ECU business students take advantage of the Cunanan Center’s resources.
