In turn with AJ Hendley

AJ Hendley at SECUThis past summer, management senior AJ Hendley interned with the State Employees’ Credit Union. The Greenville native and Pitt Community College transfer recently spoke to us about his internship and College of Business experiences and how the Cunanan Center for Professional Success helped prepare him for his internship search.

“They helped revise my resume and with other services like handshake that make it extremely helpful for success in getting an internship,” Hendley said.

What were your responsibilities during your internship?

My internship responsibilities included completing more than 200 transactions daily for members and reconciling cash drawers with cash up to 10-15k, counted twice daily. I also learned about countless different financial services provided to members and took classes that helped me learn more about the loan process and features we give to our members.

How did you apply what you learned in BUSI 1200, BUSI 2200, BUSI 3200 or BUSI 4200 to your internship?

I applied what I learned from BUSI 1200-4200 to help me understand how the company works and the functions needed to succeed in that position. These classes helped me understand how to communicate with my members and to be the best possible version of myself to the company.

What was the most challenging thing you experienced during your internship, and how did what you learned in the COB help you overcome it?

Dealing with other individuals’ money and personal information. COB helped me master the material I’ve been working with. I realized once you feel comfortable and have the knowledge, the less you’ll find a topic challenging. My biggest advice is to really study and learn the material that you will use in the current position you are in.

How have you applied what you learned in your classwork to this position?

I have applied what I learned in the classroom to this internship by establishing how to study and using that material in your everyday life.

What has this internship taught you about responsibility?

This internship has helped me understand how everyday life would be after graduation. I really appreciate this internship because of that reason, and it has helped me adapt to this everyday lifestyle. I appreciate everyone along the way that helped guide me in the most successful way possible.

Why would you recommend a business student take advantage of the Cunanan Center for Professional Success resources?

I would recommend a business student take advantage of the Cunanan Center for Professional resources because the whole mission of this service is to make business students succeed in their careers. Their main goal is to guide you with the best opportunities possible for success after college in the business field.
