COB MIS STEM camp visits local school

Middle school students learn how to build a robot

On Monday, 11/7/2022, the College of Business STEM Camp team took a road trip to Greene County Middle School in Snow Hill with its Lego Robotics kits. The team met with a group of students taught by the sixth-grade STEM Science Teacher, Mrs. Lori Kearney.

Association for Information Systems (AIS) student group board members were joined by a management information systems contingent that included Dr. April Reed, Dr. Brenda Killingsworth, Janice Knapp, Nora Tucker, Gigi Berrios, Craig Geter and Kailee Grubbs.

The AIS Student members shared why they chose MIS as a major with the middle school students. The group showed the students how to use the Lego Spike Robotics kits and how the exercise ties in with an MIS major.

According to Reed, “Mrs. Kearney was especially excited about our visit because Greene County Middle is an NC STEM School of Distinction, and she will start a robotics club early next year. We enjoyed our time with the Greene County Students.”
