SHL Alumni Spotlight - Hayley Froelich, SANS Institute

My name is Hayley Froehlich, and I graduated from ECU and the School of Hospitality Leadership in May of 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management and a concentration in Conventions & Special Events.

My first job after graduation was with a Marriott property, where I worked in the events department for three years and planned and executed weddings and corporate events. The knowledge I learned from the ECU-SHL program helped me tremendously. I quickly found that many tools I learned in undergrad could be applied to my daily work, including hotel forecasting and food & beverage safety.

Working in a hotel for three years helped me understand all aspects of an event, including contracts, room block management, banquets, audio-visual, security, housekeeping and more. I learned so much during my time with Marriott, but after three years, I decided to take a leap and leave the hotel world. I accepted a corporate planning job with a cyber security training company called SANS Institute. I have been with SANS for almost four years, and I am the senior meeting planner on my team. I get to travel each month to various cities within the U.S. and plan and execute successful conferences for our customers.

Thank you, ECU and SHL, for setting me up for immense success by teaching me the information and skills needed to advance in my career as a meeting planner!
