SHL alumna spotlight: Elizabeth Campbell '17

My name is Elizabeth Campbell (School of Hospitality Leadership ’13), and I am currently a key accounts manager for Mark Anthony Brands, the maker of White Claw.

I began my career working in retail convenience stores, working first in operations and ultimately in a couple of corporate buying roles. It was in these buying roles that I realized I wanted to pursue a career in sales, and I have been working in alcohol sales for the last four years. For my daily activities, much of what I learned in the classroom at ECU does, in fact, apply to my real-world job. It is important to focus on the details—whether it be a strategic cost initiative or the presentation of your sales pitch. Often it is the way an idea is presented as much as the idea itself that determines the outcome of your objective. It is also important to keep people at the center of what you do—not just in customer satisfaction but also in building effective relationships. Understanding who you are working with or for and their needs and objectives will prove key to achieving your own goals and objectives.

My time spent in the SHL program taught me these core values and helped set me up for a successful career in the people business. While my ultimate career path may not have been what I originally had in mind upon graduation, I was equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate and find continued success across the world of retail.
