Grit at work: Carrie Elizabeth Peed

My husband, Mark, and I live in Chocowinity and recently celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary in September. We have three amazing grown children, Kayla, Alyssa and Stephen, and three grandchildren, Maddox (7), Dylan (5), and Elizabeth Jane (18 months).

What made you decide to complete your degree?

I earned my associate’s degree and began my career at Beaufort County Community College working in Information Technology in 2007. After working at the college for four years, an opportunity opened with the Greenville Utilities Commission. Through interactions supporting employees with technical issues, I discovered that my true purpose and passion in work is helping others realize their potential. After seven years in IT at GUC, I shifted direction in my career and moved into training in human resources. This move has been the best decision ever because developing others is what fuels my passion.

Why ECU and the College of Business?

While working at the college, I learned of the articulation agreements with ECU. Knowing that my credits would transfer motivated me to enroll and pursue my bachelor’s degree. The timing was right, and I didn’t even consider attending another school. The Business Management degree aligned with my needs and when the Human Resources Concentration became available, I contacted my advisor immediately. I have the benefit of being able to take what I learn and immediately apply it to my work.

What have you enjoyed about being an online student in the College of Business?

I have thoroughly enjoyed the flexibility online learning provides. Everything you need is accessible online, and self-discipline is key.

Any new occupational goals after your degree is completed?

My goal is to continue applying everything I have learned to my work. I’ve been in my current role at GUC for one year and everything I’ve learned at ECU is directly applied to my job.
