SHL alum spotlight: Andrew Kensey

Andrew Kensey graduated from the College of Business and the School of Hospitality Leadership in May 2021.

During my time as a School of Hospitality Leadership student, I gained the experience to grow as a professional and work toward the goals I set for myself. I have loved working in restaurants since I was young, and graduating from ECU’s SHL program put me into a position of leadership for which I am forever grateful.

As a sophomore, I became a teaching assistant for introductory and advanced cooking classes within SHL’s program. This opportunity provided me with the eye-opening enjoyment of guiding and supporting others to success. When I graduated in May 2021, I was eager to get into the workforce and apply my learning.

In October 2021, I accepted a position at the JW Marriott Beach Resort in Marco Island, Florida. At this beautiful resort, I worked with the food and beverage department and assisted with multi-restaurant management. Since then, in June of 2023, I joined the banquet and event operations team. Marriott International has been an amazing company to work for and grow with.

I love my career, and I have the School of Hospitality Leadership and its wonderful professors to thank for it.
