SHL alumna spotlight: Emily Childs

After graduating in 2011 from the College of Business and the School of Hospitality Leadership with a minor in conventions and special events, I knew I’d find career opportunities back in my hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina. I began my career with Marriott International as a sales coordinator, learning essential qualities to be successful, making connections and paving a path to where I am today.

After growing my experience with franchise hotel partners as well as planning corporate events for a large financial institute between 2013 and 2019, I returned to work for Marriott International and now have the role of destination sales executive. In my current role, I partner with our outside sales channels with a high-level focus on group closure, as well as provide property support executing site visits and driving customer loyalty.

I attribute my drive and my team mentality to the hospitality courses I took during my time at East Carolina University. My professors opened my eyes to their personal experiences within the hospitality industry, and I loved discovering all of the many paths I could take for my own journey.

My heart will forever bleed purple and gold, but now with a side of red (Marriott red, not that Wolfpack red!).

I have a passion for connection, so please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you ever want to learn more about my experience.
