SHL's Cynthia Deale wins global education award

The 17th annual Global Partners in Education Experience conference recently took place in Shimane, Japan, May 20 – 22. With the theme “fostering cross-cultural awareness through education,” the conference looked at diversity in education and preparing students for a globalized workforce.

During the conference, Dr. Cynthia Deale, professor in the School of Hospitality Leadership, was awarded the Rosina Chia Instructor of Excellence Award. The award recognizes instructors involved in the Global Understanding program who demonstrate a strong commitment to both their students and their partners and create positive and impactful experiences as they work together with their partners to prepare students with the skills, knowledge, and values essential for thriving in today’s interconnected world.

Global Partners in Education (GPE) is an East Carolina University led membership organization of higher education institutions that are committed to providing their students opportunities for meaningful and impactful international education experiences through Global Virtual Exchange..

GPE’s Global Understanding Program is a semester-long, multi-lateral, multidisciplinary course. Bi-weekly synchronous video conference discussions, chats, and collaborative student projects provide personal, global experiences that promote cross-cultural understanding as students build intercultural communication and collaboration skills.
