COB steps up to help victims of Helene

Leah Grubb with recovery volunteers

With the help of a graduate assistant (Lauren George) and friend (Jennie Regan), COB’s Dr. Leah Grubb loaded up the vehicle on Oct. 12, took donations to western North Carolina and visited individuals and donation centers to drop supplies off to help those impacted by Hurricane Helene.

Grubb visited several locations – Chandler, Clyde, Hendersonville, Fletcher, Cane Creek, and Swannanoa – and brought supplies to a woman who gave birth two weeks prior to the storm.

“I made contact with first responders in Swannanoa who are using ATVs and such to get supplies out to people in that area,” said Grubb. “I will be taking winter supplies and camping supplies to them on Saturday.”

And she’s not done. Grubb plans to go once a month for the foreseeable future.

What can you do?

For those who want to give, the COB is also collecting donations. Boxes can be found in the STC on the third floor of Bate. Needed materials can be found here. Donations will be accepted until Oct. 18.
