The Miller School of Entrepreneurship was a Cornerstone sponsor for this year’s annual USASBE conference in Las Vegas. The theme this year was Fortune Favors the Bold and that aptly describes Pirate entrepreneurship. Dean Mike Harris, interim Miller School Director Chip Galusha, and interim Crisp Small Business Resource Center Director Emily Yeager were in attendance to learn what other schools are doing in the entrepreneurship space and to talk about the entrepreneurship journey at the Miller School of Entrepreneurship.

Highlights of the conference included:

  1. ECU alum Nick Crabtree (Crabtree Food Group) was the Saturday plenary session keynote speaker. Introduced by Galusha, Crabtree talked about his entrepreneurial journey from delivering food in a used van with freezers bolted to the floor to being one of the biggest food providers for the US Navy. He gave the crowd some great stories and good points on what we need to be emphasizing to our entrepreneurial students.
  2. Yeager and Galusha presented a session titled: How Do You Start a Loan Fund with Public-Private Partnerships.
  3. Harris and Yeager along with Western Kentucky University’s Whitney Peake hosted a session titled: Empowering Students Through Experiential Learning.

USASBE is a premier national organization advancing entrepreneurship education through bold teaching, scholarship, and practice.
