NP Summit Strengthens Local Nonprofits through Workshops and Networking

Greenville, N.C. (March 7, 2025) – The College of Business (COB) at ECU in collaboration with the United Way Inner Banks, successfully launched the inaugural NP Summit on March 7, 2025, at the ECU Main Campus Student Center. This free, half-day conference brought together nonprofit organizations from across the region to learn, connect, and grow through 10 valuable workshops focused on strengthening their operations and community impact. With approximately 70 individuals in attendance, the event marked a significant milestone for the region’s nonprofit community.

The NP Summit was designed to accelerate the impact of local organizations by equipping them with the tools and knowledge necessary to thrive in today’s complex environment.  The event featured keynote speakers Brian White, Administrator of Operations at ECU Health, and Anthony Tyre, Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Washington, NC. Participants gained practical insights through concurrent workshops that covered topics ranging from financial stewardship to volunteer engagement.

Sessions included:

  • Path to Project Management Success by Shelly Brantley, assistant director, Technology, Information and Operations, COB
  • Accountability and Impact: Best Practices for Nonprofit Financial Stewardship by Stacie H. Tronto, teaching instructor, Department of Accounting, COB
  • Story Telling: Mission First by Tracy Ginn, teaching instructor, Department of Management, COB
  • HR Practices by Yusef Ewais, teaching instructor, Department of Management, COB

  • The Strategic Imperative, Failing to Plan = Planning to Fail by T.D. Gribble, teaching instructor, Leadership & Professional Development Program, COB

“This is the first time we have organized this conference, but we’ve already received incredible feedback,” said Samantha Zomok, University Program Associate for the Office of Expert Services in the COB. “Attendees are requesting longer workshops, more networking opportunities, and additional sessions on a wider range of topics. It’s clear that this event filled an important need for local nonprofits.”

The event, which was open to all nonprofit organizations in the region, is set to become an annual offering. As the NP Summit continues to evolve, ECU’s College of Business and the United Way Inner Banks are committed to helping nonprofit organizations strengthen their missions and impact.
