Students, faculty, and staff gain real-world experience on Charlotte business trip

On March 31, more than 40 College of Business students, faculty, and staff visited Charlotte, North Carolina — also known as the Queen City.

The group included students from several programs, including the Dean’s Student Leadership Council, the Miller School of Entrepreneurship, Blacksail and the IMBA program.

Throughout the trip, students gained real-world business insight and made valuable connections across multiple industries. They had the opportunity to hear directly from CEOs and leaders of prominent companies, including:

  • Sunbelt Rentals
  • Polymershapes
  • Wells Fargo Securities
  • BofA Securities
  • Charlotte Hornets
  • Carolina Panthers
  • Contec

The trip also featured networking events with ECU alumni. Highlights included a Sunday night dinner at Fahrenheit and a lunch with financial traders in Charlotte’s bustling financial district.

The last stop was a tour of Contec Inc. in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The manufacturing facility is owned by 1978 alumnus Jim Smith.

Overall, the trip proved to be an enriching experiential learning opportunity that gave students a comprehensive look at the business world and helped forge connections that will benefit their future careers.
