The College of Business proudly recognizes the ECU Association for Information Systems (AIS) Student Chapter for its impactful presence at the 2025 AIS Student Chapter Leadership Conference, held March 27–29 at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Students joined peers from across the country—including those from as far as Utah, Florida, and James Madison University—for a three-day event packed with keynote speeches, panel discussions, and workshops aimed at enhancing leadership, professional development, and technical skills in information systems. Workshops covered emerging trends such as artificial intelligence, tech startups, and cybersecurity. A hands-on AI and machine learning demo by Dr. Matthew Hudnall introduced students to platforms like Hugging Face and LM Studio, providing real-world insights into the workings of AI, ML, and deep learning.

The ECU chapter was selected as a finalist in the PNC FinTech Challenge, where the prompt challenged teams to develop alternative solutions for measuring financial trustworthiness beyond traditional credit scores. ECU’s team impressed judges with a solution that integrated AI, deep learning, and gamification of finance to offer an innovative approach to consumer evaluation.

Additionally, ECU AIS participated in the Independent Poster Fair, where they shared research on chapter growth strategies, including member engagement, leadership structure, and sustainability.

Highlighting the chapter’s commitment to excellence in outreach, ECU AIS earned the AIS Outstanding Communications Award for the 2023–24 academic year. This national recognition reflects the chapter’s excellence in stakeholder engagement through digital platforms, meetings, and outreach initiatives.

Attendees reported meaningful takeaways from the event, including strategies for effective team management, adaptability in leadership roles, and tips for building a standout professional presence. The conference not only broadened students’ perspectives on the IS field but also deepened their readiness to lead and innovate in an evolving digital landscape.
