Study abroad in Paris - Day 8: Going Home

by Lindsay Summerlin, MBA candidate

Today’s trip home is bittersweet for me. I’m excited to see my dogs and sleep in my bed again, but I’m also sad to see this adventure end. This week has been an absolute dream come true for me, from traveling abroad for the first time to seeing the Eiffel tower lit up at night. But like all good things, they must come to an end, and today marks that ending.

I dreadfully woke up at 6 am to start my journey back to Greenville, North Carolina and enjoyed one last breakfast of chocolate croissants (they will definitely be missed). Our ride to the airport took about half an hour and allowed us to see the city one last time before leaving. Once arriving at Charles De Gaulle airport, we spent three hours going through security checks before getting to our gate and departing. The plane ride from Charles De Gaulle to Boston, Massachusetts, was filled with napping and eating delicious food, which helped the 7.5 hours plane ride go by quickly. By the time we landed in Boston, my sad feelings from leaving France were finally replaced with excitement to be back home.

Unfortunately, Boston was not a good experience due to a 6-hour, never-ending delay that led to frustration and exhaustion. After boarding three times and a plane change, we finally landed in Raleigh around midnight, and I was beyond ready for bed. Overall, my week of studying abroad in France was incredible. I met students in Tours, France, learned how a vineyard makes wine, explored Paris, and saw the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. Being immersed in a different culture is exciting and scary, but I highly recommend exploring the world!
