As part of ECU’s Engagement and Outreach Scholars Academy, Drs. Christine Kowalczyk, Shirley Mai and Linda Quick recently worked with students at the Innovation Early College High School on a research project called “Toolbox Leadership Academy.” The project focused on leadership and featured exercises where 21 students (freshmen and sophomores) learned about empowerment, teamwork and goal setting.

Joining Kowalczyk, Mai and Quick on the research project were four ECU Scholars – Maelee Becton, Lauren Humann, Sarah Maisto, and Tete Narh-Mensay – and graduate assistant Allison Levesque.

Preliminary findings of the project have already been shared with the high school’s principal; the presentation of results to ECU and Greenville Community is scheduled for April. Kowalczyk, Mai and Quick are currently working to expand the program to include additional opportunities for IECHS students to connect with ECU COB faculty and students.
