SHL alumna spotlight: Katie Parker

Alumna Katie Parker’s educational journey at the East Carolina University School of Hospitality Leadership has undeniably been the cornerstone of her professional path. Graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management in 2019 marked the inception of her journey. Embracing her ambition for growth, Katie went on to earn an MBA, along with a certificate in Leadership in Organizations.

Reflecting on her transformative experience at SHL, Katie shared, “The ECU School of Hospitality Leadership has been my guiding light. Its all-encompassing approach to education has empowered me to navigate diverse sectors of the hospitality industry with confidence and skill.” With nearly eight years of experience in the hospitality industry, including roles in distinguished hotel chains, event venues, catering establishments, and restaurants, Katie’s academic foundation at SHL has been her compass.

Katie is now the foundation coordinator for the North Carolina Restaurant & Lodging Association. In her position, she spends her time reinforcing and leading workforce development initiatives in hopes of helping build and maintain a professional workforce for the hospitality industry. She also helps advance the mission of the Foundation through education, community service, community engagement, and promotion of career opportunities. In Katie’s words, “The School of Hospitality Leadership has not only taught me the skills I need to succeed but has also set me on a path to shine in this dynamic industry.” Her journey stands as a testament to the impactful education imparted by SHL, shaping lives and enriching North Carolina’s vibrant hospitality landscape.
