Dr. John Kros, the Vincent K. McMahon Distinguished Professor in the College of Business’ Department of Marketing & Supply Chain Management, along with Thomas Newton and Walker Burdette, recently attended EDGE, a supply chain conference and exhibition.

Newton and Burdette are majors in the supply chain management program at the College, and both participated in the conference, which was hosted by the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP). They were selected from a large pool of supply chain management majors based on GPA, involvement in the College’s Institute for Supply Chain Management student chapter, and overall engagement with the supply chain program.

The students accessed special events where companies set up interviews.  Both students spoke with a number of very high-profile companies. On attending the conference, Burdette said, “The CSCMP Conference provided an invaluable opportunity for me to learn, network, and engage with industry professionals as I pursue a career in supply chain management. I was particularly grateful to Brad Hadley from SAIA LTL Freight for allowing me to shadow a meeting, which offered me a first-hand glimpse into the dynamics of the business world.” Newton added, “Overall, the conference was a great experience and an excellent opportunity to see all of the new and exciting products and systems being introduced and used in the Supply Chain industry.”

Kros said Newton and Burdette received experience not available to most supply chain students. “They were part of an outstanding conference that included topics on forecasting uncertainty, last-mile delivery service, and how to adapt to the modern supply chain,” Kros said. “Thomas and Walker also had outstanding networking opportunities that took place with ECU Supply Chain Board of Advisors member Brad Hadley of SAIA & Raleigh Roundtable CSCMP officer Will Seel of FHI.”

Both students were supported through the Kros’ Vincent K. McMahon Distinguished Professorship.
