ECU College of Business Students Win Big at 2025 FBLA Conference

The Pirate spirit was strong at this year’s NC FBLA-Collegiate State Leadership Conference (SLC), held March 27–29 in Charlotte, where students representing all departments in the College of Business brought home top honors in individual and chapter-wide categories.
Hosted annually, the SLC provides collegiate members across North Carolina the opportunity to sharpen their professional skills through leadership workshops, competitive events, and networking opportunities. This year’s conference featured sessions on professional presentation, interviewing, and networking alongside rigorous competitions in areas such as impromptu speaking, business knowledge, and case analysis.
ECU students rose to the occasion and represented the College of Business excellently. Congratulations to the following award winners:
Individual Awards
- Isaiah Smith
- First place – Foundations of Computer Science
- Fifth place – Cybersecurity
- Taylor Triggs
- Third place – Impromptu Speaking
- Eighth place – Public Speaking
- Also elected as the new FBLA state vice president of communications — the first ECU student to hold a state office in nearly five years.

- Fifth place – Management Case Competition

- Third place – Hospitality Case Management

These wins are more than medals — many of these students are now eligible to compete at the National Leadership Conference, taking ECU’s legacy to the national stage.
Chapter Awards
ECU’s FBLA chapter also saw significant success in membership growth, earning two chapter-wide awards:
- First place – Percentage Membership Increase
- First place – Numeric Membership Increase
With a more than 90% growth rate, ECU’s FBLA chapter is building momentum and creating opportunities for more students to get involved in leadership and career development.
