2015 Strategy Case Competition Winners!
The 2015 Strategy Case Competition took place on Tuesday, November 17th. This year’s competition centered on a business case about Samsung’s environmental initiatives, and recommendations were presented by three teams selected during the semi-final competition across the sections of the capstone Management class.
The first place team—Kaitlin Butler, Collin King, Ian Metcalf, Sara Mosely, and Jenny Vang—were awarded $1,700 for their presentation, which featured a plan to develop Samsung’s triple-bottom-line approach to business. Sarah Riggs represented her team to win second place, $1,300, for their environmentally-conscious recommendation related to Samsung’s electronic wallet program. $1,000 for third place was awarded to Kevin Earp, Chris Kincheloe, Lee Parker, and Adam Rose for their analysis of Samsung’s operating system capabilities.
The judges were Brandon Tate from Atlantic Wireless and Scott Griffin from Practicon, who awarded $4,000 in prizes generously provided by the COB. Also in attendance were COB faculty Stan Eakins, Paul Schwager, Jim Westmoreland, Joy Karriker, Josh Bendickson, and Laura Madden.
The judges and faculty were particularly impressed by the creativity in each recommendation and by the work each team put into crafting their presentations. As Dr. Josh Bendickson commented, “The case competition is always such an exciting and inspiring event; it is great to hear the innovative solutions our students recommend!”
