SHL Sustainability Students Design Certified Tourism Ambassador Program

The Greenville-Pitt County Convention & Visitors Bureau, in cooperation with the ECU School of Hospitality Leadership, worked together to create a course that will be offered in April for students and local front-line hospitality employees to become Certified Tourism Ambassadors for the community.

Graduate students from Dr. Cynthia Deale’s Sustainable Tourism (SUTO 6000) class worked with Andrew Schmidt, Director of the Greenville-Pitt County CVB and collaborated to design the course that will focus on learning about the Greenville area, include an educational tour of the Uptown District and Pitt County attractions, and a classroom component on customer service skills.

The student project included marketing and promotion to include identifying possible participants and target markets, developing a budget, developing a theme/ branding, etc. and developing content of website.

Students from the Master of Science in Sustainable Tourism program included Billy Barber, Julia McNeil, Chelsea Midgett, Sara Neilson, Amanda Ohlensehlen, Lindsey Sing, Marla Thompson, and Sara Dahlen. The students will attend the CVB’s National Tourism Celebration Luncheon at the Greenville Hilton May 3, 2016, where individuals who complete the CTA program will also be recognized.
