Thomas D. Arthur Professorship in Leadership Unveiled
Thomas D. Arthur was recently honored with an unveiling of the dedicatory plaque of the Thomas D. Arthur Distinguished Professorship in Leadership. The presentation was held April 12, 2016 on the first floor of the Harold H. Bate Building on the campus of East Carolina University.
Arthur earned his MBA from ECU in 1971 after serving three years as an infantry officer during the Vietnam War earning the Silver Star and other military awards. During his career after military service, he led the Hav-a-Tampa cigar corporation to profitability where he was well-respected among his many employees. The professorship is named in honor of Arthur’s belief in the value of leadership, his foresight and desire to assist the university in establishing the very first Professorship in Leadership.
Aneil Mishra, Professor in the Department of Management, and current recipient of the Thomas D. Arthur Distinguished Professorship in Leadership was on hand at the unveiling. Dr. Mishra is an internationally recognized expert on how leaders build trust. He has developed and conducted leadership assessment, executive education programs, and team development for a variety of Fortune 500 firms and other organizations, including leading health care organizations and non-profits across the globe.
