Robert F. Bird Professorship in Risk Management and Insurance Unveiled
Robert F. Bird was recently honored with an unveiling of the dedicatory plaque of the Robert F. Bird Distinguished Professorship in Risk Management and Insurance. The presentation was held April 12, 2016 on the first floor of the Harold H. Bate Building on the campus of East Carolina University.
Bird, an ECU College of Business graduate, worked in government and manufacturing roles prior to joining the Independent Insurance Agents of NC (IIANC) where he currently serves as Executive Director. IIANC provides services to the state and region as the premier training organization and voice for businesses and agents who build and serve corporations, government agencies, and individuals with insurance services for the protection of health, business and personal assets. IIANC named the professorship in honor of Bird’s dedication and service to the insurance industry. He served as a longtime member of the College of Business Advisory Council and now serves as an Emeritus Member.
Brenda P. Wells, Associate Professor in the Department of Finance, and current recipient of the Robert F. Bird Distinguished Professorship in Risk Management and Insurance was on hand at the unveiling. Dr. Wells has demonstrated an outstanding gift of teaching while encouraging students as she has served as the director of ECU’s Risk Management and Insurance Program which has now been recognized as the 16th best program in the nation.
