Ohlensehlen Selected as Outstanding Graduate Student
Amanda B. Ohlensehlen has been selected as the Outstanding Graduate Student in the College of Business based on her accomplishments in both academia and the professional world. Ohlensehlen is the Economic Development Coordinator for the City of Havelock and a student in the Master of Science in Sustainable Tourism program in the School of Hospitality Leadership. Prior to her current position, Ohlensehlen served as the sales manager and head of operations for the Havelock Tourist and Event Center.
As part of her graduate work, Amanda created a water resources inventory for Craven County, and developed a strategic marketing plan that she will present to the Tourism Development Authority and a panel of industry and community stakeholders. During her graduate education experience at ECU, Amanda also helped to create the Tourism Ambassador Program for Greenville, served as an informal mentor to other students, and was a guest speaker in undergraduate classes several times during the last four semesters.
Ohlensehlen will be recognized as the award recipient and presented with a plaque at the College of Business Graduate Recognition Ceremony slated for May 5th in Williams Arena – Minges Coliseum.
The Outstanding Graduate Business Student Award was established by Donald B. Boldt, former faculty member and Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs in the College of Business. Boldt received a BS in chemical engineering from the University of Iowa in 1957 and then served in the US Air Force until 1960. He then enrolled in Harvard Business School, where he earned his MBA. Boldt spent 27 years in general management in international business in Australia and the United Kingdom as the number two officer in a Fortune 1000 corporation and as president and co-owner of Wall-Lenk Corporation in Kinston. After retiring from business, he served as the Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs in the ECU College of Business.
