Lemken Wins Award to Research CRM Strategy and Execution

Dr. Russell Lemken, assistant professor in the College’s Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management, is the recipient of a $3,000 Harold & Muriel Berkman Charitable Foundation award.  Dr. Lemken’s research proposal, titled “Discipline Execution of CRM Strategy,” was selected for funding among 75 applications.

About the proposed research, Lemken said, “Most senior executive teams spend considerable time studying data and debating the pros and cons of new strategies only to see a strategy change substantially in the hands of sales and marketing teams. These unplanned changes can cause misalignment with related functions and ineffective use of resources and technology. This new Berkman research grant supports an investigation of the organizational barriers that prevent the intended strategy from becoming the actual strategy.”

Only three awards were given by the Foundation.

Lemken’s award marks the second time for a College of Business professor. In 2016, Dr. Christine Kowalczyk won the award for her Reconceptualization of Luxury Brands research.

ECU’s College of Business has more than 28,000 alumni and is one of the largest schools of business in North Carolina.
