In turn with Nathan Boswell
Our recent intern of the week is Nathan Boswell, a finance major from Charlotte, North Carolina, who recently spoke with us about his internship, the College of Business, and how the Cunanan Center for Professional Success helped him prepare for his internship.
“The Cunanan Center for Professional Success helped me prepare for my internship search by providing the necessary advice and critiques to my resume while also informing me of campus job fairs,” said Boswell.
What were your responsibilities during your internship?
I worked on TIAA’s RetirePlus Product and supported my manager with her daily tasks, which included creating detailed excel spreadsheets and working with other divisions to complete a Q2 presentation.
How did you apply what you learned in BUSI 1200, BUSI 2200, BUSI 3200 or BUSI 4200 to your internship?
I learned how to work successfully with a team and develop professional PowerPoint presentations. This knowledge carried over in my internship and helped make it a success!
What was the most challenging thing you experienced during your internship and how did what you learned in the COB help you overcome it?
The most challenging things in my internship were creating detailed and professional excel spreadsheets. Pivot tables were a significant challenge. However, due to my MIS courses, I relied on the knowledge from my courses and pushed through to complete the task!
How have you applied what you learned in your classwork to this position?
I saw how a major corporation operates on a day-to-day basis. The College of Business taught me how to work and succeed in a large professional environment.
What has this internship taught you about responsibility?
From rigid deadlines to arriving at meetings on time, the professional world is no joke! This much-needed experience allowed me to improve myself when it comes to responsibility.
Why would you recommend a business student take advantage of the Cunanan Center for Professional Success resources?
The Cunanan Center for Professional Success will help you create a professional resume that will appeal to employers and inform you of job fairs and other potential job opportunities.
