SHL alumna spotlight: Ravon Murphy
Participating in the hospitality leadership program at ECU’s School of Hospitality Leadership has been a transformative journey that significantly contributed to my professional growth and, ultimately, paved the way for my current role as a controller with Chartwells Higher Education (HE).
The program, with its comprehensive curriculum and hands-on experiences, provided me with a robust skill set and a profound understanding of the intricacies of the hospitality industry.
One of the key aspects of the program was its focus on leadership development. Through workshops, mentorship, and real-world simulations, I honed my leadership skills, learning to inspire and guide teams effectively. This skill set became invaluable as I progressed in my career within Chartwells HE, especially in the dynamic and fast-paced environment of the hospitality sector.
The program’s emphasis on financial management and strategic planning was particularly beneficial for my role as a controller. The knowledge gained in budgeting, financial analysis, and forecasting has empowered me to make informed decisions and contribute to the organization’s financial success. Additionally, the program’s emphasis on adaptability and problem-solving has proven crucial in navigating the complex challenges inherent in the hospitality industry.
Networking opportunities provided by the program were instrumental in connecting with industry professionals and mentors who offered guidance and insights. These connections were pivotal in opening doors and securing the controller position with Chartwells HE.
In essence, the hospitality leadership program has been the catalyst for my professional ascent, equipping me with the skills, knowledge, and connections needed to thrive in the competitive landscape of hospitality management. The experiences and lessons gained have shaped my career and positioned me to contribute meaningfully to the success and growth of Chartwells HE.
