Twilley Academy students hit the road for competitions

Pirate Sales Club students in Wilmington

Two teams from the Pirate Sales Club out of the Twilley Academy of Sales Leadership participated in mid-October sales competitions. One traveled east, and one traveled west.

Four students competed in the Indiana University National Sales Competition Oct. 16 – 18. The Twilley Academy competed against seven other teams and 32 competitors nationwide. Brinkley-Lane Scholar and marketing major Sarah Maisto walked away with the MVP award. Mark Powell of Nucor Corporation and Arthur School 2015 MBA grad presented Maisto with the award and said, “After evaluating the competition, the judges and I had a clear choice for the winning student. Throughout the competition (she) displayed empathy, authenticity, and leadership presence.”

“I could not have done this without Mr. Chapman and my teammates,” said Maisto.

Joining Maisto on the trip to Indiana were Cole Languell, Rosslyn Honse, and Phillip McCain.

Back east, 11 sales students competed in the Oct. 18 Hendrick Automotive Sales Group Sales Competition in Wilmington, North Carolina. They went head to head against more than 100 students representing teams from UNC-Wilmington, North Carolina State University, Liberty University and UNC-Greensboro. For ten students, it was their first time competing in a sales competition. Douglas Bell, Jaden (Angel) Bullard and Isaiah Brooks finished in the top 30. Olivia Grubb, an Arthur School MBA student, joined the 11 students and served as a coach.

John Chapman, director of the Twilley Academy, said, “All students put themselves out there and competed.”

The Twilley Academy of Sales Leadership is one of the five centers that make up the COB’s Office of Expert Services.
