Rick Niswander is a Professor of Accounting at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.

For over 7 years, he was the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance at ECU.  In this role, he was responsible for business services, campus operations, accounting and finance services, human resources, information technology, and construction and renovation of campus buildings.  He stepped down as Vice Chancellor at the end of March 2018 to return to the faculty.

Prior to assuming the Vice Chancellor duties, he served as Dean of the College of Business and the W. Howard Rooks Distinguished Professor for 6 ½ years.

He began his career at ECU as a member of the accounting faculty in 1993.  He holds a Ph.D. in accounting from Texas A&M University and a BSBA in accounting from Idaho State University.

Prior to entering academia, he was employed by Deloitte, Haskins & Sells, and was the CFO of a privately-held real estate company in Phoenix.  He has been a CPA since 1981 and a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) since 2015.  He served as the Chairman of the North Carolina Association of CPAs.

He served for five years on the American Institute of CPAs Board of Examiners (the committee responsible for the development and scoring of the CPA Exam) including two years as chair.  He recently completed a 3-year term as a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA), where he also served as chair of the Audit and Finance Committee.  He served as a member of Council (the governing body) of the Charted Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), a London-based international professional management accounting organization that is in a joint venture with the AICPA.  He currently serves as chair of the CIMA Lifelong Learning Committee, the body responsible for the CGMA examination.
