Asli Barlow is an Associate Professor of Finance in the College of Business at East Carolina University. She earned her Ph.D. in Finance and International Business and an M.A. in Economics from Old Dominion University, as well as an M.S. in Business with a concentration in Finance from the University of Baltimore.

Dr. Barlow’s research focuses broadly on corporate finance and corporate governance, with particular interests in executive compensation, cybersecurity risk, financial institutions, and investment decisions. Her work examines how governance structures and managerial incentives influence firm risk-taking, dividend policy, financial reporting, investment efficiency, and financial performance. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including International Review of Financial AnalysisFinance Research LettersBusiness Research QuarterlyJournal of Insurance Regulation, and International Business Review.

Her recent research also explores emerging issues at the intersection of finance and technology, including cybersecurity risk management, cyberattacks, and bank performance, and the role of executive incentives in shaping firms’ responses to digital threats. She regularly presents her work at major academic conferences, such as the Financial Management Association.

At East Carolina University, Dr. Barlow teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in corporate finance, financial management, financial markets, and international finance. Since joining ECU in 2018, she has been actively involved in curriculum development, student mentoring, and professional engagement initiatives within the College of Business. She also serves as the faculty advisor to the ECU Financial Management Association (FMA) student chapter, supporting student engagement with financial markets, industry professionals, and career development opportunities in finance.
